mexico city is now one of my favorite cities. it’s lush, walkable, colorful, and there is delicious, affordable food on every corner. i visited mexico for a wedding so i was only here for 2 days, but it didn’t take long for me to fall in love.

payment:

mexico city is pretty credit card friendly and most modern places took card/apple pay. if you’re dabbling in street food or street vendors, you may want to carry some cash on you.

google maps rating culture:

google maps rating culture is pretty consistent with the US, meaning anything 4.4 or above is usually pretty good. however, because i was only here for a short time, i was really prioritizing places that were recommended to me or anything 4.8 and above.

places to stay:

i would recommend anywhere near La Condesa or Roma Norte. these neighborhoods are super hip and trendy, filled with great restaurants, good bars, and stellar bakeries. the tree-lined streets make it delightful to walk around and there are plenty of parks to sit at and people-watch. this is the airbnb we stayed at (link). it was absolutely gorgeous, spacious, perfect for 5-6 people, and very central! it felt very safe and there was a security guard/door man at the entrance of the building.

the first night we stayed in the Polanco neighborhood at the Hyatt. to be honest, the location was not my favorite, especially since there was some construction at the time, but it is also a more “ritzy” neighborhood, with big box luxury car retailers, which for a regular schmegular person like me, is not very relevant 😅. however, there was an INCREDIBLE bakery there that i will mention in the food section. luckily that bakery is a small chain so there are other locations elsewhere.

transportation:

i wish i had time to try out the public transportation here. based on what i saw, there were busses and a light rail system. Uber here is extremely cheap ($2-4 within the city), so we relied on Uber most of the time if not walked on foot.

FOOD/SHOPPING/THINGS TO DO:

caveating this section because i was only there for 2 days, so i didn’t get to go to the museums that i wouldve wanted to see, but food and cafes are the highlights here!
